the 95209 is the number that will be stamped into the frame and is the chassie serial number and the one that should be used for looking up on the Wisc site to find out when it was biult. It looks like from what you posted, that NY titled off the engine number, which was common back then, Both my K's are titled off the engine number. If you still have questions, give me a call at 60. I wonder why they didn't just say chassis number and engine number on the data plate. As I said before the "serial" number listed is for the engine. The serial and chassis numbers are interchangeable and mean the same thing. In your case, IH referred to the serial number as the chassis number.
The serial number matched the chassis number which is stamped into the frame on the driver side just above the front spring hanger. On some, they would show a model of the truck and the serial number. The data plates and the information on them varied depending on the model and year. In my experience, the serial number for the vehicle is the chassis number. International built a pretty good old truck, a lot was left to be desired as far as their record keeping goes, and a lot of things they did didn't make any sense. Steve is correct, serial number is not going to make the truck any more valuable. Luke, First, that's a really neat old truck and it's appears to be in good shape. It does not make your truck any more or less valuable. What is the difference between chassis serial and serial #? so what am i to make of the 195301? Thanks Luke I think you are way over thinking that number! It would be a great coincidence if your truck was built in 1953, but it wasn't, so it is just a somewhat random number that identifies your truck per the New York state rules of 1953. What is the difference between chassis serial and serial #? so what am i to make of the 195301? Thanks Luke It should have been titled using the chassis number. Also, trucks were titled in different ways depending on where you were located and who was actually typing the forms. Go back to the WHS and look at the trucks from 50-52. The serial number list you included is for an "R" series which followed the "L" from 53-55 in the small trucks. Luke, As Geoff said above, the truck may be titled as a 53 but it is an "L" model which was produced from 50-52. why is it 195301? whats the odds of that? I have see other plates such as here is mine. Back at that time, vehicles were titled in the year first sold, so a vehicle might be made in one year and sold 1-2 years later, and carry a title from the later year.
You can find the year produced but not the exact date by going to the wisconsin historical archives (they have all the IHC stuff) and looking thru the starting and ending serial numbers for each year. No, IHC numbered sequencully not by year, starting at 501 for each model. Hi, I have a 1953 International and on vehicle plate the S/N says 195301.
